Here at camp, when it comes to competition, I love seeing the Alphas and Omegas “bring it” with their enthusiasm, and face paint! If you could sit in on Wednesday’s cabin cheer competitions or experience a camp farkle (that's the "rock, paper, scissors" game)– you’d be inspired. Camp has a fun, intentional design to compete all the while being constructive to all participants.
Here’s the competition issue … is it constructive or destructive? Does it build up or tear down the development, character and esteem of our child? Never forget our children must see and feel security, support and consistency when it comes to competition.
When stimulating your child’s courage to compete, consider these HIGH FIVE DO BE’s …
Be realistic
Be encouraging
Be honest
Be supportive (be there)
Be creative
Remember:
Fun assignment: As a family rotate choosing a family game from something as simple as “I spy” to sports, ping pong to board games, checkers / chess to even playing a hilarious game called “Commotion.”
Consider these Scriptural snapshots to inspire courage to compete: Ephesians 3:17, Daniel 1:8-21, Philippians 3:14, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Hebrews 12:1-2, 10-11. Competition is healthy and courage is necessary so… let the games begin!
