Recognizing Opportunities to Serve - Part 2

Today ... YES TODAY! (psst. it's a camp tradition) we're challenged by the fourth leg of L252 - our relationship with those around us.  A quick recap from our L252 Challenge: wisdom (wise choices), stature (healthy living), favor with God (deepening our spiritual life) and favor with man (serving  others).

I love walking through our camp gate where there is a wooden sign that reads: “Love God, Love Each Other.” I like to high five it when walking through like I’m headed out for a big game.  Serving others is more than a game; it’s an intentional lifestyle.  We’ve all seen the tv commercial where someone does a nice deed only to have that person pass it on to the next person and it continues from person to person - just because someone started the chain of nice gestures.  What a great message and example for you and me as we touch the lives of those around us.

Too many opportunities pass us daily without our recognition - opening a door, giving a sincere comment, lending a helping hand.  We can even anticipate the next need of those around us whether they are total strangers, acquaintances, friends and/or family.  Yes family.

When it comes to family, we really have NO excuse.  Yet isn’t it strange how it’s family that we neglect, forget, ignore and are just downright mean to?  We say, "we’re family," right?  Too often we take our family members for granted.  Dads, let’s take the lead and set the example by “luv’n on mom” … really show your son / daughter how to serve her in the “art of serving Mom.”

Today … come on you know … YES TODAY, let’s be a "good Samaritan" to others (remember that guy from Luke 10:25-27). Let's make and take the time, let's sacrifice and make the effort to both recognize and act upon the opportunities we are given to serve.  We show our love for God by serving others, especially our families … that’s how God designed it - pretty cool.  And besides, family matters.

Go for it, pass it on and see how many lives it touches.

Love God, Love Others

Johnny
