WORD…"We Ought Read Daily" the scriptures as responsively as we text, twitter and (old schoolers) email. Strange how savvy and adept we are with our moment by moment connectivity yet just to hear the phrase "read your Bible daily" seems so hard.
We say we love God but does our intake of His Word reflect that in our daily priorities? Think of reading God's Word being as basic as breathing--in and out, it's natural, done without even thinking about it. Being in His Word and absorbing His Word will never disappoint. When times seem dry, distant or blah, it may be reflective of our attitudes and efforts. Here's the deal….are we too consumed in "our stuff" to be about HIS stuff (heart)? The hard question is "Who's on the throne of our schedule, priorities and passions?"
How powerful is His Word? BOOM-spoke creation into being…BOOM-raised the dead-healed the sick…BOOM- does not return void. A world without God's Word is a drab, desolate, barren wasteland as portrayed in the recently debuted movie "The Book of Eli." Wow, if Hollywood can figure that out, how much more we, as Christ followers, must treasure and devour His Word. Let's give the WORD it's proper due. Since Hebrews 4:12 describes the Bible as a "two edged sword" be intentional with it as we "rightly divide truth" because…we are "the best bible for the world to see."
Try one or more of these ideas… get the Bible on CD, such as "The Bible Experience", read a Proverbs a day (coinciding chapter to calendar day) to be wise, read a Psalm a day to be a passionate worshiper, and remember to navigate both Testaments. Keep it simple, stick with it and let the Holy Spirit express God’s Word in all that we are and do.
You'll love it and live it--that's what Camp is all about….. Finally, we, your Camp fan club officers, would be thrilled to send you some previous summer camper bible studies. We’re always honored to share ideas. I double dawg dare you to let us know how your family is doing reading God's Word daily.
