Comparison Game - Part 2

Family Matters Picture

Here at Camp we love games, plenty of competition, lots of fun, new discoveries and adventures but there is one game that is not allowed in Camp – no ma’am / no sir-- it’s the "Comparison Game".  It’s a game that is just too easy to play and then too hard to walk away from.  You find it everywhere …we all play it at home, church, school, in the neighborhood and more times than not it leaves us discouraged, empty, frustrated and off track.  Today, yes today, January 28th let’s officially declare the "Comparison Game" over, STOPPED, powerless and a waste of time.  Agreed? Good- now let’s replace it with another game.

Hebrews 10:24, 25 says “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another --and all the more and as you see the Day approaching."   Application of this new game is to build up, fortify, strengthen and encourage each player – this is unlike most games (excuse me for comparing).  Now, this is a game of focus, intentional concentration and not just cheesy fluff balls, rather heart to heart words of life.  Proverbs is packed with these game instructions. Check out Proverbs 15:23; 25:11; 18:20, 21–compare the different types of people and truths contrasted in the book of Proverbs.

So, in our OFFICAL day of dropping the "Comparison Game" (trap) and playing the new "Compliment Game” of building up each other (aka the body of Christ) let’s acknowledge the truth that we all need each other. We all have different talents and gifts to work and serve together as seen in the master picture as found in 1 Corinthians 12:14-25.  Camp really is a great place from in our cabins, groups, specialties and activities to see the body  in action the way God designed it to be – thanks campers, All Stars, TC’s and coaches.

Wrapping it up: boom da da boom (attempt of a rap beat -ha)

Comparison Game = done, gone, no more, pressure released

Compliment Game = begun, personal, genuine, life giving

  • Instructions:  sincere, truthful, up lifting, consistent,  eye contact
  • Applications: runs best when from the heart, time in prayer, right scriptures
  • Warnings:  choose right timing, really mean it, and have proper motive
  • Result:  Truly “Loving God and Loving others” well.

 Now that’s more than a game it’s a lifestyle … Game on!
