Here at T Bar M Camps, we’ve got a big serve from our tennis courts, sports, food and great staff, but it all starts at home. Home is where we discover our core values, our likes and dislikes, from the meal table to comfortable clothes. We also realize we have a refuge to go to… a place to call home. A home is different than a house. A house is a structure where a home has warmth, heart and is a safe haven.
Well, if we can all agree about our home … yes Dorothy: “there’s no place like home, ” why is it that we treat our own home with such casualness when it comes to basic respects such as laundry, a clean room or closet and the list goes on…? Have you ever noticed that it’s much easier to serve others in their homes: be it taking care of their dishes, their yard or other projects, yet when it comes to our home we all get the “ahhhh mom syndrome?” Others may salute and celebrate our service, but our family and our God know our real heart. These days, serving seems anti cultural when it comes to taking care of our own family home.
Howard Hendricks says “if it doesn’t work at home, don’t export it.” Let’s take care of our home-front by serving, protecting our family’s refuge. Our fort. The pride and respect that goes into such a habit will bring peace and comfort. Here are a few scriptures that remind us that serving begins in the home:
Ephesians 6:1-3… “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right 'Honor your father and mother' which is the first commandment with a promise that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Colossians 3:19-21… “Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”
At Camp we keep in mind to “Love God & Love Others” . There’s no better place to start than our homes. Ezekiel 44: 29 (The Message) …"Serve from your best and your home will be blessed.”
