How many times have you felt like the train that muttered “I think I can, I think I can” when it comes to running, swimming, biking or any kind of aerobic exercise? Exercise is important to your body and all its systems as it oxygenates the entire body strengthening, building and replenishing itself. Now, don’t check out on me. How well would we do with a thorough check up? Really. Let’s get out of the “I’ll start tomorrow syndrome” today by taking a second look.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 reminds us that our body is special. Yep, it’s a temple and that it’s been bought with a high price. Seriously, how great is that. We are God’s House – sounds strange, but that brings a whole new perspective. Camp is serious about being “body builders” not in the muscle building sense but in the community sense. The fact is that we need each other and were specifically designed this way by God. This concept is the foundation for this summer’s theme of UNITAS (Latin: unity) - more to come this summer.
Our focus today is on the stamina, endurance and importance of being fit. Notice I didn’t suggest or want to imply an impossible perfect body. Teenagers have too much pressure for that already. Rather, accepting and acknowledging we all have different body types. Let’s commit to better eating habits, a 20 minute aerobic daily activity and getting rest. You’ll find a huge difference in your attitude and ability to function well.
This summer besides the swim test, recreational activities and heart raising fun – know that our schedules and menus will reflect intentional balance for a healthy lifestyle. Sure, everyone misses the soft drinks and candy ….funny thing after a few days you don’t even notice it. Fit for life requires a conscious effort and must be a high priority. Today (yes today) is the day to prepare for tomorrow’s aging by staying active, being aerobically engaged and making it fun. Camp will give you a jump start – we promise.
