Hey, parents and campers … “NOW hear this, NOW hear this!” You are not strange, abnormal or just crazy when you drive each other crazy or get frustrated. No, actually, if you experience such tension, relax and take a second to be thankful, yes thankful. Every family lives in tension, yet it is how you handle that tension that determines whether it draws you closer or drives you apart. The choice is yours.
There is a time for all families when communication is hard, difficult and just FRUSTRATING. That’s not a bad thing but a healthy thing. Living and supporting one another takes work as we honestly grow and develop in our giftedness. Now mom, it’s true. Sometimes you can wear the wrong jeans... be a little too suffocating. Dad’s, we can talk too much or too little and just be too goofy – trust me, I know. Teens and Young Guns, you can be rather obnoxious and self absorbed. So there! There are no perfect parents or kids – it’s just true.
Parents, your best parenting manual is God’s Word – digest it and really absorb it. You’ll be amazed. Teens and Young Guns, you can change your world, your teachers, and your parents with respect and consideration...especially when you do it God’s way. Sounds a bit old fashion, but it works. Adults are for you and believe in you. You’ll find them quite understanding and supportive when you don't bow up and act so bull headed.
Camp is a great place to rethink, restructure, and reevaluate your relationships... especially with your parents. Parents go crazy each night of Camp burning up the computer searching for your picture and reading / hearing about your day. Parents want to connect.
Parents your children need you to parent first and be a friend second. They need your consistency on decision making, rule setting and setting an example. Just as at Camp, kids would rather see a sermon than hear one any day and they need you more than you’ll ever know.
God knew what He was doing when He designed the family. Let’s trust Him by doing it His way.
