The world is glued to the T.V. as the World Cup is playing out before our very eyes. Nation versus nation-- yet one ball has unitied us globally. I’m totally FUAGNEM (Camp word for Fired Up and Going Nuts Every Minute) about the World Cup. In fact, one of my favorite treasures is a soccer ball that a young Zambian made for me out of plastic bags and a potato bag string. Most children of the world play soccer, but some are barefoot on glass, rocks and debris passing, shooting and juggling with that very same kind of homemade soccer ball.
How about us (you and me) --- are we in front of the T.V., or are we out and about? Being active effects all areas of our lives from circulation, digestion and being able to sleep at night. Being active keeps us mentally alert, socially involved, and the list goes on and on. Why is it that many of us are so lethargic, stiff and bored? Could it be in correlation to our activity level?
Everyone can be active – it’s a choice. If you’re sitting most of the day take a break each hour to do some heel raises, lunges, and side bends. Take a walk, stretch and move around.
Our campers often come from comfortable couches where playing computer games or watching television for hours on end are common. When they’re at Camp they find themselves engaged in heart thumping, fast paced activities and laughing a lot (good stomach exercise and good for your face muscles)!
Our bodies are wonderfully made … take time right now and consider Psalm 139. Stop, Look and Listen to your body then make adjustments to strengthen it.
Let’s “get on the ball” and “get the ball rolling” by getting up and becoming active.
