Don't Waste Fun Don't Waste Fun

Red, White, and You!

July is here and with this Sunday being the 4th we have so much to celebrate with the Independence that we have as citizens of the USA. Freedom really isn’t free because someone had to pay the price for freedom.  We must always remember the sacrifices so many have made for you and me. The same is true in our spiritual life and the freedoms that we have been endowed through that. Salvation is free to you and me, but it came at a high price through the sacrificial act of the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8,9).

Growing up, the Fourth of July was always a family event, usually around the lake, complete with homemade ice cream and yes, some fireworks. Every "Fourth" reminds me of my MeeMaw who was born on July 5th... that’s July 5th, 1910. Next Monday she turns 100 years old and her mind is sharp, she doesn’t wear glasses, she reads her Bible daily and is a godly lady. MeeMaw lives at home with my mom (MiMi), and she has prayed for me and my siblings (as well as the spouses we would have and now do have) EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES - incredible.

She has lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, and 17 Presidents (she was born when President William Taft was our 27th President). She is the picture of the Proverbs 31 woman through her work ethic, integrity and her faithfulness. Faithfulness to her Lord, husband, family and friends.  I have never ever heard her complain, but boy have I heard her pray!

Freedom does capture the Red, White and You – “red” for the sacrifice required, “white” for our clean starts and “you / me” taking responsibility for the Freedoms with which we have been entrusted.  Camp is not just patriotic but intentional in our development and growth of our spiritual, family, social, fiscal, and educational service.

Happy 100th Birthday MeeMaw and thanks for setting my godly heritage...Family Matters!

Camper Corner:  Want to have more freedom in your daily lives? Then take responsibility and make the sacrifices needed to handle such responsibility. Freedom always carries a sacrificial price – do your actions and reactions warrant such an honor? Do the hard things as well as the right things.  Use your Freedom to be a blessing to others. You’ll never regret it.
