“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all?", asked the Wicked Witch only to find out that there was “Snow White.” We all face mirrors, and standard mirrors reflect back the object in front of it. What is our reflection revealing? According to whom? According to the tabloids, infomercials, peers or according to God’s standards found in His Word?! Hmmm, "Johnny why do you always have to bring in the scripture?" Proverbs 27:17, “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects man.
Personally, being a first born, I grew up with self-imposed performance and people pleasing tendencies. It has taken time, but a dear godly man (looked like Col Sanders – Kentucky Fried Chicken) ingrained the following: “Not I but Christ in every look and action. Not I but Christ in every word and deed. Not self- esteem but CHRIST-esteem.” To this day I repeat that in my heart and head before speaking or standing before others. Oh how I want you to see Christ in all that I say and do.

Finally, did you know that goldsmiths and silversmiths heat up their precious metals in intense heat only to scrape away the dross (imperfections)? They know that the precious metal is pure when they can see the reflection of their own face. So what kind of heat will it take for you and me to reflect our Lord’s face before others?
So mirror, mirror on the wall … its God’s Word that reveals it all!
