Hello Family Matters,
“Goeie More” or Good Morning from Stellenbosch South Africa! Deciding what to wear today is not too difficult because it is sunny and a high of 63â—¦ and a low of 51â—¦ - to me it’s burrrrr rabbit.
However, back at home there is such a strange pressure to wear the right tennis shoes, jeans, shirts, cologne and the list goes on. Now don’t tell me you don’t know what I mean – Anthropology, Abercrombie, J Crew, Banana Republic, Hollister, Justice and so on. Personally, I prefer Alpha / Omega apparel because it just looks good and reminds me of Camp.
Here in South Africa we are training 26 leaders from 16 nations and I can promise you these incredible friends are not caught up in fashion – no way, just layered clothing to stay warm. They most certainly have warmed our hearts.
They are all about putting on the armor of God (Ephesians 6) and clothing themselves in God’s Word and His righteousness. I didn’t have to travel around the world to discover this, but it’s helpful to mingle with real spiritual heroes who are more concerned about being an “Ambassador for Christ” than worrying about the “stuff” they’re wearing.
Yes, our Lord dresses the birds and the lilies of the fields (Matthew 6:25-34), but the real issue is what is motivating us. Are we dressing up or down to call attention to ourselves? To whom are we looking for approval / validation? Check out Galatians 1:10 – it speaks for itself.
To be clear we need to be wise with good healthy hygiene. Remember, we are reflecting God in all that we say, do and the way we present ourselves. How much $ are you spending on the “stuff” compared to blessing and serving others in need?
“Biae Dankie” means thank you – to which they stare at me when I say “buy-a-donkey, get a cow – you can milk it.” Camp guys, we’re strange … okay I’m special.
