Today, yes today, is October 7th. With Major League Baseball playoffs in full swing, how are you doing in managing academics and extracurricular activities? Just as the pressures of grounding, fielding and hitting are in the MLB so are the pressures of school and extra activities.
Are you on top of your game as we quickly approach the middle of our fall semester? How’s your first score card (report card), have you lived up to your expectations? Better yet, how is your facial, body and attitudinal report card… tired, irritable, frustrated and burned out already?
Take time to re-evaluate your game plan. Assess your rest, eating, and study habits (what hour?)…. then make an honest assessment. What needs to change? What needs to go? What needs to improve?
Most of the MLB teams are back home evaluating their season and making adjustments for a stronger future, making tough decisions, so let’s do the same. What needs to be brought back into focus? How will you (not can you) bring balance back into order?
Parents: Can you say to your child “I love you too much to allow you to …” which communicates support, sets boundaries and keeps a kid secure, loved and valued? Word to the Wise: Give them room and space to develop decision making skills by making mistakes, and allow them to take on responsibilities.
Take it from me … major in the majors (zero in on things that really matter) and minor in the minors. Scripturally, Proverbs 22:6, “train up a child in the way they should go” does not suggest to program or box in – instead, like a good coach (not friend), allow them to develop into a skilled player that can face pressure and perform with their God given talents to impact their world.
It won’t be long and your season as a parent, to a youngster, will be gone as they head to college and into their career. Don’t strike out by not getting and staying involved in your high calling as a parent.
