Several champions have been crowned over the last ten days from the Australian Open, Winter X Games, and golf with the PGA and European tour championships. This weekend, the NFL will conclude its season with one team winning the coveted Lombardi Trophy. Excitement is in the air and as the season wraps up there are plenty of opinions, speculations and expert commentaries as they look back over these accomplishments.
Champions come and go. Some are readily remembered and others easily forgotten. Yet there are day to day champions in our everyday lives. They perform in the classroom, band hall, debate, arts, athletics and homes. The real lasting champions are the ones who have shaped their lives by building their character. As a result of powerful decisions, disciplines and dedication their character rises to the status of a champion. This is demonstrated by tenacious efforts and behaviors through their words, thoughts, and conduct.
Check out 2 Peter 1:2-11 and see the victorious position that Peter, a Christ-follower, has and the power and position given to overcome the struggles of this world. Also, notice the foundation for such championship living is a position given – by God. The great thing is that according to verse three we have been given everything needed … what a deal! Even still, there are personal faith practices to be developed as described beginning in verse five.
So, let’s be champions today remembering our foundation and that we have everything we need to live a life pleasing to God!
