We are a drug dependent society that has a difficult time embracing pain and disappointment. There is a multi -billion dollar industry that is grateful.
As Christ-followers our bodies are considered the “Temple of God” (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20). Get this - God dwells not in church pews and stained glass windows but actually in our person…. mind, heart and soul! This truth is mystifying, but it is a foundational pillar that separates our relationship with Christ from that of man-driven religions. The “God with us” life is a reality when we are rightly related to God.
This scriptural truth establishes the cause and effect thought, “Since God lives in us and through us then why would we want to contaminate our bodies?” I am writing to caution, warn and stand against drugs used to hide and insulate us from being disciplined, intentional and working through the daily stresses that come with life.
Parents, today’s youth, be it the “latch key kid” or the kid who’s in a “Leave it to Beaver” family, can concoct serious uppers and downers to achieve a “high” with the most innocent of ingredients found around your bathroom, kitchen, and garage. If you’re uninformed then get informed.
Mom, Dad, your personal privileges of alcohol, smoking, or excessive relievers can give a kid justification for escape and experimentation. Many rehab drug users are quick to state that they never knew that one joint or sip would take them so far. Most hurts, habits and hang ups start at home, but you can intervene by being the generational chain breaker. It is so easy to say. It is so hard to do. Think again if you’re thinking this couldn’t be your family. Be the one to break those generational chains.
