Pornography is Destructive - Part 2

Printer-friendly version

“May I flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but the immoral person sins against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18. “May I not set my heart on evil things or become an idolater, or commit sexual immorality.” 1 Corinthians 10:6-8.  “May I not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all my heart. May I not turn aside to go after worthless things which do not profit or deliver, because they are useless.” 1 Samuel 12:20, 21.

Pornography is everywhere from highway billboards, to ads, and shows etc.  It has an agenda. It is a wedge that separates God’s intent and divides families down to the individual member’s mind and heart. Sexual sin is a slap to God’s face and a direct rebellion to His design.

Man is the masculine image of God and woman is the feminine image of God. Porn degrades women and ultimately the enemy (Satan) wants men to hate women. Porn literally etches the brain leaving a groove that gets deeper and deeper demanding a progressive addiction. James 1:13-15 reveals the downward spiral of lust leading to death be it physical or emotional.

Parents, care enough to talk with your family. You can save it heartache. They may not act like they value your input, but you have the greatest influence in their life. Talk to them about healthy longings for the opposite sex. Tell them and model for them how to treat someone with respect and value. Be honest and tackle it together … laugh, cry, pray and seek God’s strength and wisdom.

When you play with fire you might not get burned, but you’ll definitely smell smoky. The inferno of pornography can keep you from future employment, universities, and relationships. Posting pictures that start out funny will get real serious, real fast. Once your posting goes viral there could be legal ramifications. Possession of porn always leaves a trail regardless of how savvy you may be.

Redirect your energies and passions by making a contract with real friends, family, a mentor and God to help you set and keep healthy boundaries. Replace your curiosities with discoveries that build character, with things that will last such as impacting your community both locally and globally (i.e. Tom’s shoes). Awaken your desires to value God’s gifts of creation for their real worth, not some temporary artificial fix.

Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are not alone. Your decisions have consequences. Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13,  look for the promise of your “way of escape” and take it. I triple dawg dare you to memorize it with a parent!
