Macho, Macho Man … don’t lose your head over it!
Ladies, please give us a break as this topic denotes or exhibits pride in characteristics believed to be typically masculine. Characteristics such as physical strength and sexual appetite which can be both comical and tragic in today’s society. Today’s media culture casts the male character as a weak, ignorant, out of touch kind of guy who is helpless and irrelevant.
Let’s take a look at a mammoth macho man and an awkward teenager. David and Goliath are notable contrasts of brute, valor and courage. A short shepherd boy with a sensitive heart acts upon the convictions of his character to face a 9'+ war giant whose distorted macho mannerisms cost him his head.
Check out the attitude and actions of Goliath found in 1 Samuel 17. Notice the proud, self-centered confidence that disregarded his surroundings.
Goliath’s defiance included tough talk consisting of verbal bullets, physical intimidation and repetitive assaults. Faced any Goliaths at school, church and in the neighborhood? They are sooo self-absorbed that they will self-destruct because they are too self-consumed even though they are well equipped.
David’s deliverance came from his only source and strength – God. David ran into this conflict from his convictions in the authority of “the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled ... all will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the LORD’s,” 1 Samuel 17:45-47.
