The Certainty of Uncertainty

School is in session and I am certain that you and your family will face an uncertainty sometime this fall.  Why? Because as uncertain as our weather patterns are globally, from droughts to floods, tornadoes and hurricanes, one thing is certain... you can count on uncertainty.

How do you face uncertainty?

Are you pessimistic or optimistic by nature?  Do you see the cup as half empty or half full?  Do you see your circumstances as constructive or destructive? Take a second to consider those. Hmmm.

Today is September 1st and we have entered our fall semester. What expectations are you bringing into this new season and semester? Be ready.  Expectations will result in either disappointments and/or celebrations.

When we face uncertainty let’s be certain that it is an opportunity for growth. Growth is optional in many areas: personal, professional, social and so on.  Though there are very few things you and I are in control over, it is certain we are in control over our attitudes and choices to grow.

Consider the life of the Apostle Paul who was quick to respond and often found himself in situations that provided opportunity for growing his faith, prayer life, boldness and character. You can find great snap shots of Paul in the Gospels and in the book of Acts. Philippians 3:1-21 he Paul states his goal in life and his certainty in facing uncertainty. Also see 2 Corinthians 11.

It’s true we will face uncertainties and it is also true that Christ-followers can be certain that our God is alive, aware and in the middle of each and every situation and circumstance … He is Sovereign. Let’s go to the One who still calms storms today!

You can be certain that life is tough.  Life is not fair, and it is often unkind. This is both exciting and terrifying as life will give you the opportunity to develop, persevere and overcome all at the same time.  These opportunities are gracefully achievable through Christ and surrounding yourself with Godly family and friends. Check out this quote from a blog post of Pittsburg Steelers Rookie, Baron Batch, (former Texas Tech star) regarding his recent ACL tear...the day before his first NFL game.

Faith is something that I will once again have to lean on more than ever as I begin the rehab process.  It won’t be easy by any means but rarely is that the case with life. One thing I can assure everyone is this.  God will get glory from this and I am more than happy to be his instrument. By no means did I see this happening to me or could have possibly planned for something like this. However, I have learned time and time again that if my plans and Gods plans stayed in sync I would never be challenged to grow because I would not willingly put myself in tough situations such as this.  Trying to understand Gods plan will bring insanity, trusting it brings peace.

How ‘bout his choice to use his injury as an opportunity to grow?!
