Parents communicating their walk with Christ
Remember those exciting days of baby showers and baby dedications where we set out to train up our child in the way he/she should go? We were so excited, proud and may have even shed a tear. So what happened? Well, we learned that communication is hard work, often awkward, inconsistent and way too high tech today – right? Right.

The pages of the Old Testament instruct parents to be intentional by teaching, training and guiding our families from the earliest of days and in the everyday things of life.

Deuteronomy 6:7-9 “You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Nothing has really changed today in the role of parenting and training a child. Our environment, culture, and attitudes (such as the lack of respect of authority) is what has changed.  How we adapt to these changes is key in communicating our walk with Christ.

Your respect and reverence for God and His word will be caught when you "walk the walk" not just "talk the talk."  Your kids are sponges; talk about God and His Word in your daily conversations.

Speak up. They already know what you think about your neighbor, boss, teachers, politics and those around you - let them know how you feel about God. Let them hear your struggles and victories, fears and joys but be real and genuine.

Don’t shy away from their hard questions, rather lean in and say ‘let’s find out what God thinks about it.’ Thank Him out loud for your family, situations and circumstances. Verbalize your need for His direction and intervention.

Proverbs is packed with specific instruction for the entire family and soaked with Godly wisdom for daily living. Try taking the corresponding chapter of Proverbs with the calendar day. So today check out Proverbs 29.

Give your folks some credit and encouragement as they learn to speak up and connect with you about their faith, just like we do at Camp. Help them out with questions about God in your daily situations. Help them speak about His presence and power. This would be a significant investment in both your lives that will bring tremendous rewards as together grow strong in your faith. Meanwhile check out Proverbs 7:1-7.
