F.U.N. = Families Unite NOW … redeeming the time!

Family time is hard to come by with all our shuttling, lessons and workouts which result in busy schedules. Look for ways to maximize your family’s teachable moments in everyday situations.

Play With Purpose

Play with purpose  implies that we should lighten up, be intentional, tease in a constructive way, share clean jokes and provide creative thought provoking activities which bring wonderful returns.  Cheri and I have older sons, so our game time now includes Train Dominoes, Sequence, Categories, and Trivial Pursuit. We have also always included friends in our games both at the house and in the car. We’d come up with some of the most adventurous stories as we rotated from person to person, each adding to the story someone started. So fun!

Car Time is Prime Time for Family Time

Do you remember the games played while riding in a car? Those such as competing to spell out the alphabet from billboards, counting a certain car color / style (red 66 Mustang), I Spy, license plates, Beetle bop/ Love Bug, or here in New Braunfels – a nice pinch when you see the Natural Bridge Cavern Dino head? Today, yes today, we are too plugged in with turning on dvds and computer games before reaching the end of the street. Try praying when you first pull out of the driveway, expressing thanks and asking for wisdom for the day. Use this time as family time—you can even jam out to some favorite camp songs.

Table Time is also Prime Time for Quality Time

Restaurant and home dinner table games such as snatch (close eyes while one person removes an item then look up on command to discover what’s missing), look up look down (eye contact game), hand tap game, Ahh Soo Uew (contact me I’ll let you in on these last two), are all great table games that will keep you lingering at the table and enjoying it – real memory makers.

Bed Time is Another Prime Time for Talk Time

Instead of just sending your children off alone to bed, take three minutes to sit at the end of their bed and just listen to them. Bed time is time set aside to be available and not the place to fix things or express frustrations and disappointments, rather a peaceful THINK TWICE moment into rest. It will be a fun blessing and a great connection. Check out these scriptures Colossians 3:17 & 23 then Hebrews 10:24,25

Want some family fun time? Then try bringing a little creativity and interest to your family.   Yes, your parents may be awkward, even goofy, but give’em some grace.  You too should take the time and interest to invest in making family memories.
