“Eat to Live” or is it “Live to Eat?”
(pssst. Check out Trevor in his several year old camp hat that he wore when he took the challenge at camp...read below!)
This is a really tough time of the year to discuss food – holiday treats seem to be everywhere! Besides, aren’t New Year’s resolutions for starting a new diet??? No way! Just as we learned about computer programming “trash in—trash out”, this is also true in what we consume. Nutrition DOES have long term ramifications. We each have our own metabolic rates and genes that handle our food intake differently. On the other hand, we share the same responsibilities in our decisions and choices when it comes to over or under eating. We should know by now that processed foods, the abundance of bad sugars, saturated fats and dangerous preservatives often result in major health issues later on in life. Warning! Warning! You are what you eat.
Meet Trevor, TCU student that took the T Bar M Camps L252 Challenge to heart. As with all campers, Trevor’s week of Camp removed him from sodas and candies (what we refer to as RUCKUS). A true picture of what L252 stands for-- to grow in “wisdom, stature, favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). Last fall, some years from that pivotal summer at Camp, we caught up with him on campus (Go Frogs). Trevor stopped us and told us he has not had a soda since being a camper at Sports Camp! He continues to be wise with his diet and considers his body to be the “temple of God” which he wants to keep clean.
We, at Camp, are inspired and challenged by Trevor in his disciplines and choices. Today, it is not hard for Trevor because of his years of practice. How about you and me – are we setting good examples for those around us? Do we tend to make poor choices when a better one is available? A few suggestions: try eating less but more often. Try drinking 16 ounces of water thirty minutes prior to your meals. Each week say “no” to one more bad habit such as dessert before bed, etc. Chew some gum when you have hunger urges and surges. Exercise and get rest.
Your body is the temple of God – way cool and mind blowing.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Treat it as such in what you eat, drink, think on, and listen to. Exercise and rest. We tend to take our body for granted until part of it is hindered in some way. Make better choices including vegetables, fruits and salads, watch your breads and monitor your sweets.

Fast foods are convenient but they’re NOT your friend. Energy drinks look cool but can wreak havoc on your body. Ladies, be careful not to punish your bodies with senseless diets, and gentlemen all the excess supplements do madness on your heart and cholesterol. Your body is a gift – treat it as such.
