"Mirror, mirror on the wall” can really become deceiving especially when the mirror gets altered. Where do we get our value and our approval? It’s difficult not to be swayed by the looks and applause of our culture around us. What is lasting? What values will remain 10 or even 20 years from today regarding your decisions on fashion, body shape and things that will really matter?
Things that last … consider James 4:13-17, you’ll find perspective. 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that God’s not impressed with the physical stature and external looks rather it’s a matter of heart.
Parent, your words and fixation both personally focused and toward your children bring either security or insecurity to their lives. Self image is a real battle for youth and is harsh from childhood playgrounds to high school locker rooms. You can thwart that battle by teaching your child from day one that he / she is created in the image of God. Psalm 139 is a must read (pssst. “we are fearfully and wonderfully made.” )
Don’t ride them on their weight or acne. Do insist on respectful presentation, but do not over demand. Your example in appearance will be caught. Are you caught up in social stigmas? Breakout and your children will become free and independent.
Value is determined by God. He values you and your family so much that He sacrificed His one and only Son for you. Drop the lies of this world and redirect the Truths of His Word into the lives of your family. Take your hurts, hang ups and disappointments to Him. Lead On, Lead well.
